The King Cobra was a variant of the Ford Mustang II that was only manufactured in 1978. Only 4,313 were made. The car came with a stock V8 engine and was decorated with distinctive racing stripes and a cobra decal on the hood.
Ford advertised the King Cobra as the "Boss of the Mustang stable." The car was made as a hatchback only and came equipped with a 5.0-liter engine, a four-speed manual transmission, and power brakes and steering. An automatic transmission and T-top roof were optional at extra cost. Ford also unveiled a King Cobra muscle car prototype in 1970, but the car never went to production.
