The scientific name for a king cobra is Ophiophagus hannah. The king cobra can reach a length of up to 18.5 feet, the longest venomous snake on Earth. One-fifth of an ounce of its venom is powerful enough to kill as many as 20 adult humans.

The king cobra is found in the rainforests and grasslands of Southeast Asia, Southern China and India. It is the only known snake that builds a nest for its eggs.

A fully grown king cobra can extend as much as one-third of its body off the ground when preparing to attack prey or to defend itself from perceived threats.
