The scientific name for a zebra is Equus Quagga. Zebras are hoofed herbivorous mammals that live throughout the African grasslands and savannas. They are one of the main targets for large predators such as lions, cheetahs, leopards, crocodiles and hyenas.
Zebras can weigh up to 770 pounds and grow to a height of 4.8 feet from the ground to the shoulder. They travel in family units called harems. These groups usually consist of one male, a few mature females and their offspring. Once a year, hundreds of thousands of zebras come together to travel north to Kenya up to 1,800 miles in search of food.
