Where do koala bears live?

According to PBS, koala bears are native to Australia and live in its southern and eastern regions. These animals primarily live in tall eucalypt forests, low eucalypt woodlands and coastal or island woodlands.
Koala bears almost exclusively eat eucalyptus leaves, consuming approximately a pound a day and obtaining nearly all the water they need from these plants. While over 600 species of eucalypt exist, koalas only feed on a few species, thus limiting their available habitat. The leaves of the eucalypt are toxic to most animals, but koalas have a specially adapted digestive system to counter the toxins in the leaves.
