Do lady bugs bite?

Ladybugs are capable of biting humans if provoked, although these bites rarely cause little more than minor irritation. In those who are allergic to ladybug bites, a bite may cause a rash.
The ladybug was artificially introduced to North America and Europe during the early 20th century to control populations of aphids and other pest insects. Several color variations of the ladybug exist, including reddish orange with black spots, black with four red spots and black with two red spots. In the cooler months, the ladybug becomes less active and seeks warmer, dryer locations to overwinter. Due to the lack of natural predators, ladybug populations can explode in human dwellings under these conditions.
