Are ladybugs poisonous?

Ladybugs are not poisonous, but they secrete a foul-tasting liquid when threatened by predators. This fluid is secreted from their joints. A threatened ladybug can also play dead to protect itself from a predator.

The ladybug diet consists of plant-eating insects, which farmers find beneficial because it protects crops. Ladybugs lay their eggs in aphid colonies. Once a ladybug egg hatches, feeding begins immediately. This quickly destroys the aphid colony. The average life span of a ladybug is between two and three years. There are 5,000 different species of ladybugs in the world, and in Europe, they are referred to as ladybird beetles.
