Are lantana plants perennials?

Lantana is a perennial plant that is part of the verbenaceae, or verbena family. This lightly-scented flowering weed can grow as a vine or as a shrub if properly tended. Lantana thrives in hot climates and can withstand the rays of direct sunlight.

Lantana, like most perennials, has a life cycle of three years or more and can be quite invasive if left unattended. This sub-tropical plant can survive in sandy soil and needs little water to survive. Once planted, Lantana makes a very effective ground cover and grows wild throughout the southern half of the United States, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.
