Lap joints can be used to build drawers, desks and dressers. They can also be used for building a cabinet or sideboard face. Many applications that require two pieces of wood to be joined together can be performed by creating a lap joint.
The half-lap is a basic woodworking joint but is also useful for binding together two pieces of wood stock. Lap joints can be done in a number of ways, including a half-lap, center lap or mitred lap. They are especially well suited for applications involving the connection of two pieces of wood at a right angle. Lap joints are not necessarily the best solution for applications involving thin pieces of material, particularly if a half-lap joint is being used.
