What is a large antelope called?

A large antelope is called a giant eland, or the Lord Derby eland. This animal is one of the largest antelopes in the world. A male giant eland can weigh over a ton and can be 7 to 11 feet long. The females are a bit smaller.

Both sexes of giant eland sport long, spiral horns. The male's horns can be about 4 feet long, while the horns of the female are about 2 feet long. The hide is usually gray or reddish with black stripes, and the male has a prominent dewlap.

The giant eland lives on the savannas and grasslands of western and eastern Africa.
