How large do grape vines typically grow?

The ultimate healthy height for grape vines is between 5 and 6 feet. Grapes grow best with a main trunk and two side canes.
Grapes should be pruned each year in order to maintain the health of the plant. Up to 70 percent of the canes are removed by pruning to ensure high fruit yields in the coming season.
If grapevines are maintained well, they can produce fruit for up to 30 years. Grapevines should be planted in the early spring when the threat of frost is not present.
The canes of a grapevine only produce fruit one time, which is why they should be removed annually to allow new fruit producing canes to grow.
