What is laser therapy for dogs?

Veterinary laser therapy is used to treat dogs with arthritis and other soft tissue inflammation, as well as to aid wound healing. The procedure uses a laser beam to penetrate affected muscle or soft tissue, which stimulates blood flow and encourages the damaged area to heal.

In addition to reducing inflammation and promoting healing, laser therapy causes the body to release endorphins, which has a natural analgesic effect and minimizes pain signals. A typical session takes 10 minutes for a cat or a moderately-sized dog, but it may take longer for large dogs with very involved arthritis. The frequency of the treatments depends on the pet's condition and its response to therapy.
