Remove lava lamp wax from carpet by applying a solution of water and carpet-cleaning solution, blotting away the solution, and rinsing with clear water. Then place a brown paper bag over the stain and iron to melt and absorb the wax. Remove any color stain with rubbing alcohol.
- Apply water and carpet-cleaning solution
Carefully unplug the broken lamp, pick up any broken glass and remove them from the area. Once the liquid cools, apply a mixture of carpet cleaning solution and water to the stain. Use a clean towel to blot the liquid.
- Rinse the detergent away
Apply tap water to the area, and blot dry to remove any remaining detergent.
- Use an iron and brown paper bag
Set the iron to the lowest setting, and turn off the steam. Place a brown paper bag over the wax, and iron the bag to melt the wax and absorb it into the paper. Replace the bag, and iron again, repeating until no more wax transfers to the bag.
- Remove the wax color from the carpet
If the lava lamp left a color stain on the carpet, apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol to the stain, and blot it dry with a clean paper towel. Do not saturate the rug with alcohol, as this can dissolve the glue holding the rug fibers in place.
