Remove carpet stains by scraping up any solids, blotting with a towel, rinsing and blotting again. Then, dab with a mixture of water and a drop of dish detergent, working from the edges to the middle of the stain. Blot with a clean, dry towel, rinse and blot one last time.
- Scrape up any solids
Use the edge of a spoon to scoop up any solids in the stained area.
- Blot with an absorbent towel
Press a towel into the stain to wick up as much of the liquid portion of the stain as possible. Move to a dry portion of the towel, and repeat until the area is as dry as possible.
- Rinse with warm water
Pour a small amount of water onto the carpet to saturate the stain. The water flushes more of the stain out of the carpet.
- Blot the water out of the carpet
Blot with more dry towels to remove the water and more of the stain.
- Dab with a water-detergent mixture
Mix 1 cup of warm water with 2 drops of liquid dish detergent. Wet a soft rag in the solution, and dab it into the remaining stained area. Push the solution into the edges of the stain first, working toward the center.
- Blot to remove the detergent solution
Blot again with dry towels.
- Rinse, and blot a final time
Rinse the stain with a little cool water, and blot with another dry towel to remove the last of the stain.
