How do you get pet stains out of carpet?

Eliminate pet stains from carpeting by soaking up as much liquid as possible, rinsing the area with water, absorbing the water, and then applying a pet stain and odor neutralizer for optimal freshness. Gather paper towels, a bucket of water and a pet-stain product for carpets for this task.
- Soak up the liquid
Remove any solids from the area, and place paper towels, cloth towels or newspaper over the soiled carpet. Press firmly to absorb as much liquid as possible before removing the towels and repeating the process until the carpet is nearly dry.
- Rinse the area with water
Rinse the affected area with water, using enough to thoroughly penetrate the carpet fibers. If the stained area is already dry, this can be the first step in removing the stain.
- Dry the carpet
Cover the rinsed area with paper towels, firmly pressing them into the carpet. Remove the towels once they are saturated, replacing them with dry towels and repeating the process until the carpet is as dry as possible. Alternatively, use a wet vac or an extractor to pull as much water out of the carpet as possible.
- Apply pet-stain neutralizer
Rinse and dry the affected area again, if necessary, before applying an odor neutralizer or pet-stain eliminator to the area. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for optimal results. These cleaners, available as most pet-supply shops, are specially formulated to break down stains and neutralize odors.
