What is lawn aeration and overseeding?

By Forinfos - 13/04/2025 - 0 comments

The process of lawn aeration and overseeding involves poking holes into an existing lawn and then spreading grass seed over it. Overseeding helps grass grow in areas that are weed-choked or thin, and the thicker grass is more resistant to disease and insects.

A homeowner can overseed a lawn without aerating it, but aeration allows for better seed germination. Cool-season grasses benefit from spring or fall aeration, and warm-season grasses thrive with aeration in the late spring. A homeowner can apply grass seed evenly by using a drop seeder or rotary spreader. New grass seedlings require regular light watering until the grass is mature.
