On which leg is the wedding garter worn?

Traditionally, the wedding garter is worn on the right leg just above the knee. It is customary for brides to wear two garters on this leg: one to throw to the guests and one to keep as a memento.
The wedding garter is removed after the bride tosses her bouquet to the single female guests. The groom removes the wedding garter and then throws it to the single male guests. Whoever catches either the bouquet or the garter is supposedly the person who will marry next. This tradition originated from the 14th-century belief that having a piece of the bride's clothing brought good luck.
