What is the legal age to sign a contract?

The legal age for entering into contracts in most states is 18, according to the University of New Mexico. This assumes that individuals aged 18 and above have the necessary legal capacity to understand the nature and stipulations of the agreement.
A minor who enters into a contract with an adult can cancel the agreement upon request, but the agreement remains binding on the adult. As reported by legal scholar Lloyd Duhaime, the exception to this is if the agreement is for the necessities of life, such as legal and medical services contracts. Any contract that is found to be detrimental to the interest of the minor is void.
