The minimum legal drinking age in Mexico is 18. As of 2016, the legal minimum of 18 is the same for both on-premise purchases of alcohol, such as in bars or restaurants, and off-premise purchases, such as liquor stores.

Mexico's drinking policies apply to the purchase and consumption of beer, wine or spirits. Business owners and law enforcement have the right to ask for identification demonstrating proof of age.

Mexico's legal drinking age is consistent with policies of countries around the world. Of the 190 countries catalogued in a 2014 World Health Organization report, 61 percent had drinking ages of 18 or 19.
