Is the LG Tromm washing machine a high-efficiency machine?

The LG Tromm WM2455W washing machine was considered qualified as an energy-efficient Energy Star product by the Department of Energy at the time of its manufacture. The WM2455W was estimated to consume 180 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year of operation.

The LG Tromm WM2455W's energy consumption compares poorly to similarly-sized washing machines in production as of 2015. For example, the LG WM3175C line of washers uses a similar front-loading design as the LG Tromm and has a slightly larger capacity of 4.28 cubic feet as compared to the Tromm's 4 cubic feet of laundry space. However, the WM3175C uses only 90 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year of use.
