The Seated Liberty silver dollar coin was produced by the U.S. Mint from 1840 to 1873. These coins are composed of 10 percent copper and 90 percent silver, containing a total of 0.77 troy ounces of silver.
The Seated Liberty silver dollar features an image representing liberty on its obverse side and a left-facing bald eagle on its reverse side. The coins were minted in Philadelphia and New Orleans. Prior to the Seated Liberty silver dollar, the U.S. Mint produced the Bust dollar coin. After ending production of the Seated Liberty silver dollar, the Mint switched to a new design known as the Morgan silver dollar.
