The life expectancy for stage 4 renal failure patients is not exact, according to the National Kidney Foundation. Dialysis patients can live for many years. Lifespan is largely dependent on overall health and how closely the treatment plan is followed.
Patients with stage 4 kidney failure have function of only 29 to 15 percent of their kidneys, according to the National Kidney Foundation. Patients in the final stage of renal failure, stage 5, have a life expectancy of 5 to 10 years on dialysis, but many live 20 to 30 years. Fifteen percent function of the kidneys or lower is considered complete kidney failure.
