The lifespan of most lizard species varies from 1 to 20 years in length. The lizard species and whether or not it lives in captivity, is the reason for the variance in life expectancy. There are more than 3,800 species of lizards.
The Australian frilled lizard has a life expectancy of up to 20 years in captivity. These reptiles are carnivores in the dragon family. They live in the woodlands of northern Australia. This species, also known as frill neck lizards, vary in size and color from region to region.
Lizards generally have four legs and movable eyelids. They have external ear openings. They are cold blooded and have scaly skin.
