"Like a Winding Sheet" is a short story written by Ann Petry. The story was published by Martha Foley in the 1946 volume of "the Best American Short Stories."
"Like a Winidng Sheet" tells the story of Mr. Johnson, an African-American factory worker in the mid-1940's who struggles to control his anger when confronted with the racism in the world, but then unleashes his fury on his wife. Ann Petry is also the author of the novels: "The Narrows," The Country Place" and "The Street," which was the first novel by an African-American woman to sell more than 1 million copies.
