According to WebMD, weight gain is an infrequent side effect of trazodone and is generally not a concern. Common side effects of trazodone include dizziness, drowsiness, abnormally low blood pressure, dry mouth, low energy, head pain, taste problems and vomiting.

According to Chris Iliades M.D. from Everyday Health, trazodone is a prescription drug used to treat depression as well as schizophrenia, anxiety and insomnia. In 2007, the FDA placed a warning on all antidepressants, including trazodone, to acknowledge that taking them could lead to increased risk of becoming suicidal. This risk is greatest when just starting treatment or when adjusting the dosage.
