A liver profile blood test, also known as an LFT, is used to determine if the liver has damage or to see if it is inflamed, according to WebMD. An LFT is ordered during routine blood tests.
Sometimes, a doctor will order an LFT if a person is taking medications that can harm the liver or if they engage in heavy alcohol use. The test works by measuring specific enzymes and proteins found in the blood, as stated by Mayo Clinic. The test indicates how well the liver is functioning. There are many other blood tests that can help doctors determine the health of the liver.
