The city of Plainview, Nebraska was the setting for the fictional town of Hawthorne in the movie "Nebraska." The filming in Plainview was done in 2012.
The only changes made to the city of Plainview for the filming were some alterations in the newspaper office, that the bar "Fat's Lounge" was renamed "Blinkers" and that a tanning salon called "Monster Tan" was added. Many local residents were used in the film, with 21 people being given roles in the movie and 227 people being used as movie extras.
The movie "Nebraska" was written by Bob Nelson and produced by Alexander Payne. It was filmed in black and white and it stars Bruce Dern, Will Forte, June Squibb and Bob Odenkirk.
