Unopened, applesauce will remain good at room temperature for one to two years. Once opened, the shelf life of applesauce is reduced to about 10 days. Homemade canned applesauce can have a shelf life of up to three years unopened if sealed properly.
Applesauce is a puree of apples that are cooked and reduced. Sometimes sugar or other spices (such as cinnamon) are added. Aside from straight consumption, applesauce is also a good addition to barbecue sauces and other sauces. It is also a healthy substitution for vegetable oil in baking and is known for keeping both meat and cakes moist.
