Army Reserve basic training is 10 weeks long, the same as training for active duty members of the Army. After the initial 10-week training program, reservists continue to train for one weekend each month to keep their skills sharp.
Army basic training consists of three phases, each of which teaches new skills and more responsibility to recruits. Field exercises begin during the first phase of basic training, while marksmanship and exercises involving live ammo are scheduled during the second. During the third phase, recruits train with heavy artillery and explosives, as well as completing a night infiltration course that serves as their final test.
