Navy basic training lasts eight weeks and takes place at the Recruit Training Command in Great Lake, Ill. This is the only facility operated by the Navy for basic recruit training.

Recruits attend classes and learn topics relevant to becoming an enlisted service member in the U.S. Navy. There are a range of subjects taught during training, such as the Navy Core Values, the Navy chain of command, the different kinds of ships and aircraft and tying knots. There is also training on basic seamanship skills, firefighting on ship, water survival and weapons training. Recruits also participate in physical training regimens.
