Queen Victoria reigned over the United Kingdom of Britain and Ireland for 63 years, seven months and three days. She ascended the throne on June 20, 1837, and died on Jan. 22, 1901.
The longest-reigning British monarch, Queen Victoria was born on May 24, 1819, and was 20 years old when she was coronated. She was the first reigning queen to be married in 300 years, wedding Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. After he died in 1861, she withdrew from public life for 10 years. Parliamentary acts during Victoria's time removed direct power from monarchs, but she found new ways to direct her political causes.
