How long does it take to get a Disability Living Allowance?

It takes about 37 business days for new Disability Living Allowance claims to be processed as of August 2014. However, claims made under special circumstances may be expedited.

Claim packets are available by calling the Disability and Carer's Service or Benefits Inquiry Line, contacting a local Social Security office or through an online request. If approved, the date from which the claim pack is requested is the date from which benefits are paid, as long as the pack is sent back within six weeks. Applicants and carers may also obtain free, confidential phone information and advice on the Disability Living Allowance by calling the Benefits Inquiry Line.
