How long do fish stay pregnant?

Fish stay pregnant for about four weeks. Although only about 1 percent of fish bring forth living young, live-bearers have long been common types of fish for aquariums.

Female live-bearing fish are able to store sperm cells and can produce several broods of young. Live-bearers give birth to live young instead of laying eggs. They are usually easy to breed and do not require many special accommodations.

Live-bearing fish include both common and uncommon types of fish such as anableps, goodeids, guppies, halfbeaks, mollies, mosquito fish, platies and swordtails. Live-bearers are prized by fish keepers for their hardiness, ability to adapt to various habitats and coloration.
