A goat stays pregnant for approximately five months, though the gestation period may vary slightly depending on the type of goat. When a female goat gives birth, it is referred to as kidding.

Female goats reach sexual maturity between eight to 10 months of age, allowing them to have their first offspring between the ages of 13 to 15 months. Goats typically have one offspring at a time, but twins and even triplets are possible. When a pregnant goat's udder begins to swell and fill with milk, it signifies she'll be giving birth in about a week. The offspring only consume milk for the first week of their lives, after which they are able to digest grass.
