Henry Ford started producing tractors in 1917 under the Henry Ford and Son Company and rolled the tractor unit back into Ford Motor Company in 1920. The company continued making tractors until it sold the unit to Fiat Agri in 1993.
Ford was mass producing tractors by 1918, but in the late 1920s, production slowed, and the popularity of Ford tractors declined. Starting in 1939, Ford entered a marketing agreement to produce tractors with Harry Ferguson, which lasted until Henry Ford's death in 1947. In the 1950s, Ford added several models to its production line and continued to create revolutionary engine and transmission designs throughout the next decades.
