There are approximately 11,000 species of grasshoppers. They live in meadows and fields all over the world. A grasshopper's wings allow it to migrate when the weather gets too cool. The average grasshopper is 2 inches long; however, some grow to 5 inches in length.
Grasshoppers may lay up to 12 eggs at a time. The eggs are placed in soil and hatch underground. They can take up to nine months to hatch.
