The lifespan of a grasshopper depends on the climate where it resides. In climates where winter is cold, grasshoppers can only survive the winter as an egg. Adult grasshoppers do not survive low temperatures. In warmer climates, grasshoppers are capable of living for several years.
Most grasshoppers do not live until their natural deaths due to disease, drought conditions and predators. Grasshoppers are found on all continents with the exception of Antarctica. There are over 10,000 known species of grasshoppers in existence. Grasshoppers are herbivores and mainly eat leaves, flowers, stems and seeds. Grasshopper range from 1/2 to 3 inches in length.
