Because the term "tabby" simply refers to any domestic cat with a specific coat pattern, a long-haired tabby can be virtually any breed of cat with long hair, including mixed and purebreds. Tabby cats are often mistakenly thought to be a specific breed.
There are four types of tabby patterns: classic, mackerel (striped), spotted and agouti (ticked). These patterns are accepted by a number of purebred cat breeds as their standard and are acceptable for show cats. A few long-haired breeds hat often feature one of the tabby color patterns are the ragdoll, the Maine coon, the Persian and the Siberian.
