According to the American Kennel Club, the coat of a long-hair Chihuahua requires brushing, but compared to some other breeds, limited grooming is needed. Typically, the hair is brushed simply to look neat. A long-hair Chihuahua has either straight or wavy hair. The ears are fringed with tufts of hair, and the tail is often plumed. A large ruff around the neck is common.
