How long is Hanukkah?

Hanukkah, a Jewish holiday celebrating the rededication of the Holy Temple 21 centuries ago, lasts for eight days. The dates on which Hanukkah is celebrated are determined by the Hebrew calendar. It begins on the 25th day of Kislev and ends on the second or third day of Tevet.

There are many rituals celebrated during Hanukkah, and all involve daily prayer and blessings. Items commonly associated with this holiday include the menorah, a candelabrum with nine branches that are lit one at a time throughout the eight-day celebration, and the dreidel, a four-sided spinning top that children play with during Hanukkah.
