How long does a house arrest last?

House arrest sentence lengths are up to the court to decide, so no two house arrest sentences are guaranteed to be the same length. However, it is common for house arrests to last from 18 to 180 days, according to the Mentor Municipal Court.
House arrest sentences usually do not require the person to stay at home permanently, and instead often have allowances for certain trips out of the home, such as school, work or medical appointments, states the Mentor Municipal Court.
In some cases, such as a DUI, house arrest may include other requirements, like taking regular breathalyzers, to reduce the risk of a longer sentence or being sent to jail, notes the DUI Foundation.
