Leopards have a lifespan of up to 21 years in captivity. Leopards are apex predators, which means they are at the top of the food chain. Their only predators are humans, who hunt them for their fur, whiskers, claws and tails.
The leopard can be found across dozens of countries, with the largest populations found in sub-Saharan Africa and more limited populations in North Africa. The leopard can also be found in India, the Russian Far East, China, the foothills of the Himalayas, and the islands of Sri Lanka and Java. The leopard has gone extinct in some countries, including Kuwait, Hong Kong, Singapore, Libya, Tunisia and the Syrian Arab Republic.
