How long is pharmacy school?

Pharmacy school typically takes four years to complete following undergraduate study of two to four years. However, some pharmacy schools offer an accelerated three-year program. Additionally, some pharmacy schools offer a six-year program to students who have just completed high school and have not done any undergraduate study.

Pharmacy school combines practical experience with classwork. All pharmacists must also pass exams to obtain state licenses. Clinical or research pharmacists may need an additional one to two years in a residency program after pharmacy school. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average pharmacist earned $112,160 per year in 2011.
