As of 2015, the only schooling required in most states to become a pharmacy technician is a high school diploma. Some states require certification in addition to a high school diploma. Details on whether a state requires certification can be found on NHANow.com.
Typically, the training required to become a pharmacy technician beyond a high school diploma is acquired on the job. Formal education in the field of pharmacology or other related training after high school is not required, but it may help. Certification and training courses can be found at vocational schools, local community colleges or through internships, and most courses can be completed in a year or less.
