How long is the recovery from hiatal hernia surgery?
By Forinfos - 18/02/2026 - 0 comments
The recovery period for hiatal hernia surgery is two to three weeks with laparoscopic surgery and four to six weeks with open surgery, according to Aria Health. Patients who go through the laparoscopic surgery normally spend one night in hospital and those who undergo open surgery spend several nights.
Laparoscopic surgery is less invasive and offers faster recovery compared to open surgery. Most patients are able to walk around a day after the surgery and continue with regular activities within a week, notes WebMD. Strenuous activities like heavy lifting and hard labor should however be avoided for a few months after the surgery.
