How long does it take to renew your Italian passport?

By Forinfos - 20/03/2026 - 0 comments

As of 2016, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation does not post information about the length of time it takes to renew an Italian passport on its website. Italian citizens who need to renew their passports should contact their local passport issuing office for more information.

The Italian passport is valid for 10 years for anyone over the age of 17 and should be renewed before the expiration date. Citizens need to complete an application and have two recent photographs to receive a new passport. The 48-page passport booklet includes security technology, including a microprocessor chip and an anti-counterfeit stamp. This chip allows Italian citizens to enter the United States for up to 90 days without obtaining a visa.
