Chicken parts take anywhere from 8 to 17 minutes to cook properly in a deep fryer with a consistent cooking temperature of between 350 and 365 degrees Fahrenheit. Whole chickens are deep-fried for 4 to 5 minutes per pound at temperatures between 325 and 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Chicken wings or wingettes are deep-fried for 8 to 12 minutes, breasts and drumsticks for 12 to 15 minutes, and legs or thighs for 12 to 17 minutes.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture states that all poultry should be cooked to a minimum internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit to avoid the risk of foodborne illness.
