How long do speeding points stay on your license?

The length of time that speeding points remain on a driver's license varies by state. In Nevada, Maine and New Mexico, points stay on a license for one year, and in Massachusetts, points stay on a license for six years, as of 2014.
There are states that reduce the number of points on a license by a set number for every year that someone drives without a driving violation. Several states offer drivers the option of reducing the points on their license by taking approved traffic safety courses. Not all traffic violations have removable points, however. In Wisconsin, a DUI violation stays on a license for 55 years, as of 2014. Many states do not have a penalty points system.
