As of 2014, Guinness World Records reports that the woman with the record for longest nails is Lee Redmond. The man with the longest recorded nails is Melvin Boothe. Both record holders hail from the United States.

Lee Redmond began growing her nails in the late 1970s. By February of 2008, her combined nail length was more than 28 feet. She lost her nails in 2009 due to an automobile accident.

The combined length of Melvin Boothe's nails was more than 32 feet in May of 2009. His longest nail was his left thumbnail, which measured 114 centimeters. Boothe died in December of 2009.
