What is the longest living animal?

As of 2014, the animal known to have lived the longest life is a quahog clam. The clam, found in 2007 near Iceland, is believed to have been 405 years old. However, quahog clams typically do not live for that length of time.

Other animals considered to have the longest lifespans include some species of turtle, the bowhead whale and the elephant. The Galapagos turtle is known to typically live for greater than 150 years, and the American box turtle lives for around 120 years. Some bowhead whales have been reported to live for as long as 200 years, but the average life expectancy for these animals is around 70 years. Elephants also live for close to 70 years.
