What is a longevity test?

The longevity test, developed by Dr. Claudio Gil Araújo, is a simple sitting-rising test designed to measure strength and flexibility and, in turn, determine who lives longer. It demonstrates the need for individuals to remain fit, flexible and strong as they age, reducing the risk of serious falls and injuries.

The test requires a bare-foot individual to go from standing to sitting on the floor, returning to a standing position, without relying on limbs for support but using core strength to move. Based on a 10-point scale, losing balance or relying on a limb for support while moving results in point deductions. The higher the number of total points, the greater longevity for the individual. A study found that individuals aged 51 to 80 who scored less than eight points were twice as likely to die within the next six years than those who scored higher.
